Rule
#4 Consistent
Action Beats
Talent and Hard Work
Climbing the Steps to Success Depends
More on Consistency than on Talent or Hard Work
Look at that guy on the right. I bet he works hard, maybe even harder
than the one on the left. But he is always starting over.
It
is like pushing a Giant Rock up a hill.
Stoppping for a while,Start -
Stop - Start - Stop - Start - Stop - Start - Stop - the rock rolls to
the bottom, and then starting again.
What makes the work even harder is the lack of progress, the lack of
reward.
Consistency is the
Key. In Rule # 3 I stated that you have to Master
Yourself to get yourself to do the work, even when you don't
feel like working. This Rule # 4 reinforces why that is critical.
People
like to talk about "overnight success stories" but those are actually
never what they seem. Even
those who seem to hit it big, were doing the work day in and day out
for years to get ready for that moment.
It
is better to take small steps everyday. I
would rather you worked for 1 hour each day, than all day on Saturday
and Sunday every week.
Most
importantly, you would be more successful and profitable with the daily
consistent work than working hard one day a week.
Consistency
is more important than talent,
because talent is only valuable if applied with consistent effort.
Wasted talent is very common because it has no value unless you
practice and put it to work on a consistent basis.
Those
who succeed in online marketing are the ones who just keep doing the
most important tasks each day, for the long-term.
1.
If you DON'T HAVE a list of at least 1,000 subscribers, then make sure
you are adding 4 or 5 new subscribers each day. That
takes about an hour per day of time.
2.
If you DO HAVE a list of at least 1,000 subscribers, then make sure
that you are emailing them MOST DAYS. Focus
on sharing content that is at least 80% value for the subscriber. Don't
promote things for sale more than 20% of the time.
No
one is successful with every day, but the more days you hit your goal,
the faster you will accomplish your dreams.
I
am happy with that level of consistent action on the goal of building
my email list. No one
is perfect, but I try to never miss twice. If I missed today then it is
twice as important that I don't also miss tomorrow.
However,
since I already have a large list, the most important thing I do each
day is to send an email to my subscribers.
I
rarely miss a day of sending emails to my list.
This
rule of consistency applies to almost every aspect of life.
- If
you are trying to eat more healthy, then more days consistently on your
diet is better.
- If
you are trying to get in better shape, then more days consistently
doing your workouts is better.
- If
you are trying to build an audience on social media, then more days
consistently posting new content is better.
The
true value of consistency is not seen until you reach the long-term. That
is why you have to fight the short term benefit you get from cheating
and do it right.
You
might prefer to watch a movie rather than promoting to build your list
today. It won't matter
in the long-term whether you watch the movie. It
will matter in the long-term if you keep cheating on your goals.
Determine
the most important activity that you need to accomplish each day to
accomplish your goal.
Hint
... it is building your email list!
Make
that task a priority to get something done each day and track on the
calendar your Win Streak. The
more days you are successful in a row, the more likely you are going to
be successful again tomorrow.
